More than 150 million individuals suffer from diabetes.
This number is increasing at an alarming rate with an estimate
of over 300 million with the disease by 2025. The most at
risk of diabetes is those living in areas promoting lifestyle
changes. This typically occurs in developing countries such
as those found in Africa and Asia.
In 2005, over 20 million people have diabetes in the United
States. Statistics from the ADA point to the fact that over
6 million individuals have gone undiagnosed while 41 million
are considered to be pre-diabetic.
Less than 10% of all diabetics are type 1. Some of these statistics vary because many differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes have gone misunderstood across the world.
